Its legacy of abolition, reconstruction and desegregation is alive today in movements for reproductive justice, voting rights, transgender equality and workers’ rights. Southerners are joining forces to show America what’s possible when it confronts its history, reconciles with its differences, and reimagines a more perfect, more just union together.
